Los Alamos |
Long climbs and descents plus some fun rollers. A deviation to Pajarito Ski Area adds climbing and distance. Also possible side trip to Los Alamos which sits atop finger like Mesas cut by steep canyons above the Rio Grande. This is one of the most unique and scenic places you will ever ride. Starts in Plaza area at the end of the Santa Fe Trail. Gradual Climbing for the forst half the ride with 2 miles that will work you, plus a steep mile out of Canada de los Alamos. Amost continual downhill back toSanta Fe Plaza. A plaque in the southeast corner of the plaza in Santa Fe marks the western terminous of this historix trail and reminds us that wagon caravans loaded with goods arrived here from Missouri in the 1800s. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Several long climbs, but long descents too. Biggest Challenges are Dixon to Penasco and U.S. Hill. This loop typifies northern New Mexico - Old Spanish Villages, fertile valleys, and little development. Cottonwoods line teh riverbeds, and apple orchards dot the landscape.
