We were going to go ride at Colorado Natinal Monument today but at the last minute I discovered that we needed lights due to tunnels. Instead we went to another part of Canyonlands National Park, the Needles District. We truncated out ride significantly in order to spend time exploring the park which was down below where we were yesterday at the Grand Lookout.
The first thing we saw today was Newspaper Rock Archaeologcial Site. The main attraction here were the Petroglyphs.
When you look into the historyof these, no on yet knows ow to interpret them.
Next, we parked at the Visitor's Center and did about a 14 mile loop ride. We kept it short becasue tomorrow we are planning a big day.
As it turns out, the Needles District also has a lot of interesting scenery.
We thought this rock looked like an alien head
We had a nice lady take some pics of us while there.
Then we returned to the Visitor's Center and headed out to see some sights. First up was the Cave Spring Trail which highlighed some old cowboy housing.
After the cowboy sections, we walked though some cool overhangs with more Petroglyphs and bat guano
Next the trail got fun .. we had to climb ladders to get onto of the large stone!
After some climbing we found a very cool view!
Then Tom won the race to be King of the World
And we took a great group picture.
Next we went to the Pothole Point Trail which also had some cool views

Finally we drove to the end of the road where we had ridden to earlier today and climbed those rocks ourselves!

On the drive our of the park, we took a lot of pictures of the giant rock buttresses. Here are a few for you to enjoy
On teh way back to Moab, we noticed this nutjub had turned one of the rocks into advertising space.
And we had a great lunch at Peace Tree Juice Bar which had great food.
When we got home, I had to repair teh bed in my room because the dam frame was broken when we got here. This is a great house but it has some issues.
